Singapore Builds Back Better: The Oxford and Cambridge Society of Singapore speaks with Minister Desmond Lee

The drive to ‘Build Back Better’ has put sustainability initiatives high on Singapore’s national agenda, most recently resulting in the government’s Singapore Green Plan 2030 announced in February 2021.

On 24 March 2021, we were delighted to hear from Minister Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration on how the transition to a greener economy could provide economic opportunities, build climate resilience and improve the living environment for Singaporeans and foster even greater societal cohesion.  The talk was moderated by Dato Paul Supramaniam, President (2016 to 2020) and now Immediate Past President, Oxbridge Society.

Minister shared broadly about Environmental and Social Sustainability.  For Environmental Sustainability, Minister discussed how we are transforming into a City in Nature, taking a science-based approach to nature conservation, planning for our long term needs as well as balancing development and conservation. On Social Sustainability, Minister spoke on transforming our social safety nets, community partnerships and contributing to the community.

Topics covered also included nature conservation, smart living, and our climate action plan.

We are pleased to enclose the slides from Minister Lee’s talk.
