June Fireside Chat with Professor Bertil Andersson: The Nobel Prize and its Inner Workings – How, Why and to Whom?

Following from our successful BNY-Mellon Boat Race (Singapore) 2015, we return to our regularly-scheduled programming – the Fireside Chat. Details for our next chat are as follows.

Ordinary Members whose membership has lapsed may sign up at the door for a fee of $60 for Ordinary Membership, or $300 for Life Membership. Oxbridge Friends and Alumni who are eligible for Membership may also sign up at the door.

About Our Speaker

Professor Bertil Andersson is a plant biochemist of international reputation and is the author of over 300 papers in photosynthesis research, biological membranes, protein and membrane purification and light stress in plants.

From 1989 to 1997, he was member of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry (Chair 1997), later becoming a member of the Nobel Foundation (2000-2006) and he is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nobel Foundation.

He was educated at Umeå and Lund Universities in Sweden. After a distinguished research career spanning Umeå (Professor of Biochemistry), University of Stockholm (Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences) and Linköping University, Sweden (President), he joined the European Science Foundation in Strasbourg as its Chief Executive.  Prof Andersson was appointed NTU’s first Provost in April 2007 and was installed as NTU’s third President on 1 July 2011.
